How Does Microwave Moisture Measurement Work?
Water has unique dielectric properties and interacts with electromagnetic waves much more strongly than most dry components of a material. Microwave moisture measurement makes use of precisely this effect.
The sensor generates an electromagnetic measuring field that penetrates the material being measured. Depending on the amount of water present, the behavior of this field changes. The measuring system detects these changes and, using a calibration tailored to the specific material, converts them into a moisture value.
Because microwaves penetrate the material, the measurement is not limited to the immediate surface. This makes it possible to obtain representative moisture values directly within the process, particularly for bulk materials. The measurement is fast and continuous and can be used directly for monitoring or controlling the production process.
